Step 2

Most of the recipes that first became a success and then a symbol are the result of chance. It is said that around the 30s, Mrs. Ruth Wakefield, owner of the "Toll House Inn" restaurant in Massachusetts, was preparing her usual cookies when she realized she was running out of nuts. He decided to take a Nestlé chocolate bar from the pantry, thinking that if he chopped it, it would melt into the dough, but after cooking the flakes remained intact. Much to the surprise, the "wrong" cookies were so popular that the recipe was printed on the back of the same bar. Seventy-five years ago he decided to sell the rights to his recipe for just a dollar to Nestlé, which for years - making a huge advertisement for it - reported it on the wrappers of chocolate bars attributing it to “The famous Toll House Innat Whitman, Massachusetts”!
